Capturing Children’s Heirloom portraits in the heart of Newport News.
These heirloom children portraits are a modern twist on a deeply rooted southern tradition. These portraits capture the child’s personality. There’s nothing to distract from the sweet little expression on his or her face. Heirloom portraits are a way to celebrate and capture the beautiful individuality of each child.
Driven by a love for beautiful light and timeless imagery, I work with each client to create a collection of images of each child to be cherished for years to come.

Wondering what to wear for studio portraits?
DO YOU LIKE HEIRLOOM PORTRAITS?
If you love classic or timeless heirloom portraits that’ll hang on your walls for years to come, try dressing your child in WHITE shirts. Classic children’s clothing usually comprises the wardrobe (think Peter Pan collars and beautifully smocked dresses).
For best results: no graphics, patterns words etc.
This is my personal preference for black and white portraits especially!
OR A POP OF PERSONALITY?
If your little ones got a lot of personality or you’d like to pair modern, casual clothing with this portrait style; think color, texture, and detailing!
For best results: no graphics or words etc.
Bring them with a clean, moisturized face free of crumbs and boogies.

Frequently asked questions
This is an important point!
Dress your child in plain and simple clothing so that nothing defines or distracts from their expression and natural personality (no words, logos or patterns).
Make sure that your child’s face is clean before you arrive (many children do not like having their faces wiped, it is best to do it before hand allowing the portrait process to be a positive experience.) Moisturize their face, arms, and hands a day before the session, and come free of crumbs and boogies!
Hair as natural/simple as possible with no accessories etc.
Remove chipped nail polish and temporary tatoos.
6 months -102 years.
This style of photography lends itself well to every age. There is no age limit, however, it is required that babies are able to sit up on their own or hold themselves sturdy in a bumbo chair (please provide your own.)
I love working with older Children and teenagers too!
I like to photograph siblings together at the end of their individual sessions, however, I can’t guarantee group participation. Sometimes the result is amazing and sometimes it doesn’t work out.
A $175 non-refundable deposit is required for each booking. If you need to reschedule your session, please give me at least 48 hours notice so that I have a chance to fill the spot, and so that I can transfer your deposit to a later date. If we are unable to schedule your session for another time you forfeit your deposit.
I will remove any temporary imperfections such as bruises, scratches/scabs, etc. Somehow injuries happen right when parents have photos scheduled! If there is swelling or anything questionable, feel free to send me a photo so I can assess if we should reschedule or move forward with the session.
While your child is being photographed it is up to you and them if you’d like to be close by or to step away while they express themselves.
The main thing is to allow me the opportunity to build a rapport with your child, capturing their attention and focus. I do kindly ask that you not remind your child to smile or coach them while I’m photographing them.
With younger children and “runners” we can count on it being a team effort and a bit of a work out!
I shoot many frames to get the best images and expressions, so let them do their thing!
