As I’ve spent time in conversation with single moms, I’ve learned there are so many things you sacrifice on a daily basis, and for once, I want to put you first so that:

1. You can have tangible proof of what an incredible job you’re doing.

2. Your children can see how much you love them.

3. And more importantly, so that you feel seen and heard.

Why did I start this Layers of Motherhood?

When I became a mom about seven years ago, I began looking back on my childhood with a new set of eyes. It wasn’t until then that I truly understood the sacrifices my mom made to provide for my sister and me.  The endless hours spent at work, lack of sleep, putting our wants and needs before hers, and devoting every spare minute to clean up our messes.

I was in awe that despite all of that, we were still able to make some of my favorite memories; like baking chocolate chip cookies from scratch, or hiking around the little log cabin we lived in (with a dozen cats in tow) and spending hours planting flowers in our flower beds.

The thing is, I realized that I only had one photo of my mom and I as a child.

This is why I decided I would help other single moms get in photos with their children.

How it works

1

BOOK A SESSION

You’ll schedule a call where we’ll talk about my process and get to know each other better, then we’ll work together to pick a date for your FREE session.

2

CONVO & PHOTO DAY

We’ll start the session with a conversational interview, then continue with 2 hours of unposed family  photos and a motherhood portrait.

3

GET YOUR PORTRAITS

After a few weeks in editing, you’ll receive and email with a link to a gallery just for you. From there you can download and choose to print them anywhere you’d like!

Donations from the community are appreciated!

After each session, I’d love to gift the mama a 16×20 matted and framed piece. Each framed print costs around $35. Every little donation helps provide these incredible women with something tangible. If at some point I feel the series is complete, I will be making a donation with the remaining balance to a local nonprofit and sharing proof.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHY DID I START THIS PROJECT?

I grew up with a single mom who worked really long hours to try and provide for us. So our time with her was really special. I just have ONE photo that documents that time. Enter a passion for making sure that moms are getting in the photos with and without their children.

WHAT IF I LIVE WITH SOMEONE?

It doesn’t matter what your living environment is. I’ll try and document your story in a way that is respectful to your home and those around you.

WHAT IF MY KID MISBEHAVES?

If your child is being who they are with me, as they would with you, then I cannot ask for more. Children are often the most authentic of the bunch, their actions and expressions are pure and unfiltered and that, to me, is gold.

WHAT IF I DON’T WANT YOU TO SHARE A PHOTO?

The goal is to share this project with as many as possible, but something even more important is that you are honest and vulnerable with me. If there is a specific photo you don’t feel ready to share, I’ll wait until you’re ready.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Wear something yall are comfortable in. There is no need for matching outfits. These photos are meant to be casual and natural. During our time creating a portrait just of you, you may choose something that makes you feel good.
