For a lot of preschoolers, I’m the first photographer to ever take their photos.

Big-name school portrait companies are all about serving the masses in a matter of seconds. I remember when my son Colby, who was seven at the time, came home after having picture day at school and said, “Mom, I wish you were our school photographer, those photographers are so bossy!”

I am the furthest from being a bossy school photographer! I do on the other hand take a bit more time to notice if they are hesitant, or shy even. I put my camera down and begin talking with them, asking them questions and being silly.

Taking just a few extra minutes really builds up their confidence and puts that sparkle in their eye!

In the end I hope these portraits are hung on families walls, make each child feel important and valued, and are treasured for many years to come.
