ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT GETTING YOUR TODDLER IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA?
it is normal for children to experience “stranger danger”
First, I just wanna say it is completely normal for children to experience “stranger danger” during their developmental stages.
Secondly, I see you mama! You’re working so hard and doing SUUUCH a wonderful job caring for your toddler(s) and I’m here to make the portrait-taking process as easy as possible for you.
As a photographer for ten years and a preschool photographer for the last three, I can confidently say I’ve met hundreds of children with different personalities and have learned some tricks along the way!
My goal for your child is to create a positive portrait experience. We want to nurture confident picture-takers!
MY APPROACH TO PHOTOGRAPHING TODDLERS
My approach to photographing each toddler is always relaxed and nurturing.
Most sessions start off with a few minutes of chatting with your child and watching their social cues. Those few minutes are generally all I need to bring a smile to your child’s face.
If I see that your child is slightly shy but happy, I’ll start photographing right away!
WHAT I'LL DO IF YOUR TODDLER STARTS TO CRY
The first thing I’ll do is put the camera down immediately. I’ll then begin building trust with them by talking about something they enjoy.
I may ask them about their favorite characters like Mrs. Rachel, Bluey or Elsa. I may make a silly sound or face or pull out my secret toy. Most children immediately light up. It’s just too fun to resist!
After I’ve gotten down on their level and spent a few more minutes with them and their features have softened, I’ll return to my camera.
WHAT IF MY CHILD REFUSES TO DO THE HEIRLOOM SESSION?
I know it can be hard to stay calm when we’ve worked together to plan your child’s heirloom session but, this is not the time to scold or get frustrated. When a child has been corrected in front of me they are less likely to cooperate. It also makes the studio feel like it is not a safe space.
When you stay calm and encourage, it helps your child remain calm and ease into the session.
Remember, we are working to cultivate confident picture-takers!
It is highly unlikely, but in the event that your child does not want to be photographed, I will give you the option for a complete refund or to reschedule in the next 6 months to a year. Generally, I find just a little bit of time allows them to be more comfortable with someone they don’t know.
If you’re interested in capturing all the sweet details of your toddler, I invite you to take a look around! Let’s create beautifully tailored artwork fit for your home.
