Baby’s First Year mEMBERSHIP

Every baby arrives with their own personality, preferences, and rhythm. Rather than expecting your newborn to fit a strict posing workflow, I gently follow your baby’s cues throughout the session.
If your baby needs to eat, we pause. If they need extra cuddles, we slow down. If they’re happiest wrapped snugly or stretching freely, we adapt.
After photographing children for more than twelve years, I’ve learned that the calmest sessions happen when babies are given the time and space they need to settle naturally.
Parents often tell me they expected their newborn session to feel stressful. Instead, they leave saying it felt peaceful.
That is exactly how I want you to remember these first days.
Newborns don’t follow schedules, and I don’t expect them to. Every session is intentionally paced around your baby’s needs, allowing plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and cuddling without ever feeling rushed. My goal is for you to settle in, relax, and simply enjoy these first days together.
From soft wraps and neutral blankets to simple newborn outfits and diaper covers, nearly everything your baby will need is already waiting for you. Rather than packing half the nursery into the car, you can arrive knowing the details have already been thoughtfully taken care of.
Most parents tell me they feel nervous about being in front of the camera after welcoming a new baby. You don’t need to worry about knowing how to pose or what to do. I’ll gently guide you every step of the way, creating portraits that feel natural, connected, and true to your growing family.
A few weeks after the session is over, I’ll help you choose artwork that’s meant to be enjoyed every day. Whether it’s a framed portrait for the nursery or an heirloom album to share together for years to come, my goal is for these photographs to become part of your family’s home rather than living unseen on a hard drive.
Every decision, from the pace of the session to the finished artwork hanging in your home, is designed to make this season feel just a little easier and a lot more meaningful.
1. INQUIRY
Begin by completing the inquiry form.
2. CONSULTATION
Every inquiry is followed by a short conversation so we can get to know one another. During this time, you can ask questions, hear details about session options and artwork, and feel fully prepared before reserving your baby’s portrait sitting.
We’ll also talk about wardrobe, how to prepare for your session, and the calm, baby-led approach I use when photographing newborns.
3. THE PORTRAIT SITTING
Newborn sessions typically last between 60 and 90 minutes, allowing plenty of time to move at your baby’s pace.
Feedings, soothing, and diaper changes are all part of the rhythm of the session. My goal is to create a peaceful environment where your baby can settle comfortably while I gently guide each portrait.
Using simple wraps, soft textures, and timeless posing, we’ll create portraits that focus on the quiet beauty of these first days.
During your visit, you’ll also have time to see frame samples and albums in person so you can begin imagining how your baby’s portraits will live in your home.
4. THE ARTWORK REVEAL
After your session, I carefully curate and prepare your baby’s portraits for your artwork reveal appointment.
During this meeting, we’ll view your images together and design the artwork that will preserve this season of your child’s life. Many families choose heirloom albums or framed portraits that can be displayed throughout the home.
I’ll guide you through every option so the process feels simple and enjoyable.
5. ARTWORK DELIVERY
Your baby’s portraits are printed using museum-quality materials and finished with archival craftsmanship.
Whether displayed in a custom frame or preserved within an album, each piece is created to become part of your child’s story — something you will treasure now and for many years to come.
The entire portrait experience generally
takes 8-10 weeks from session to finished product.
This isn’t simply a newborn photography session.
It’s the beginning of your child’s story, thoughtfully preserved in artwork designed to live in your home.
As a Norfolk newborn photographer, I believe your baby’s first portraits deserve more than a folder on your computer. They deserve to be seen every day—framed on your walls, gathered in an heirloom album, and passed from one generation to the next.
Every decision I make, from the simplicity of each portrait to the materials used to create your finished artwork, is rooted in creating something timeless.
If you find yourself wanting to hold onto more than just the newborn days, a Baby’s First Year Membership allows you to continue documenting your baby’s story as they grow.
Capturing milestones like 6 month or sitting, and their first birthday, it’s a simple, seamless way to ensure nothing is missed, with each session thoughtfully planned and designed to become part of your baby’s story.

I recommend booking your newborn session three to four months before your due date to ensure availability. As a Norfolk newborn photographer, I accept a limited number of sessions each month so that every family receives a high touch, personalized experience. Booking early allows us to thoughtfully plan your session and reserve space around your due date.
Once your baby arrives, we will schedule your session within the first 7 to 14 days.
What is the best age for newborn portraits?
The ideal time for newborn portraits is within the first two weeks after birth. During this time, babies tend to be sleepier and naturally curl into the gentle poses that create timeless, classic portraits. If your baby is older, do not worry. Beautiful newborn style portraits can still be created, and I will guide you through the best approach.
One of the benefits of reserving your newborn session during pregnancy is that we don’t schedule your actual session until after your baby arrives. Instead, we’ll reserve space around your due date and adjust as needed once your little one is here. Whether your baby decides to make an early entrance or keeps everyone waiting a little longer, we’ll simply choose the best date together during those first few weeks.
Your comfort is just as important as your baby’s. Newborn sessions are intentionally unhurried, allowing plenty of time to sit, rest, feed your baby, or simply take a break whenever you need to. I’ll gently guide you into natural, comfortable poses and never ask you to do anything that doesn’t feel right. My goal is for you to leave with beautiful portraits and wonderful memories of the experience—not feeling exhausted by it.
Once you’ve reserved your session, I’ll guide you through everything you need to know before you ever walk through the studio door.
You’ll receive preparation information, guidance on what photographs best, and simple tips for helping your baby arrive comfortable and ready for the session.
If you’re still waiting for baby to arrive, we’ll reserve time around your due date and finalize your session once they’re here. This allows us to photograph your baby during those precious first few weeks while still giving you flexibility if they decide to arrive early or late.
Every newborn is different, and that is completely expected. Your session is baby led and unhurried, with plenty of time built in for feeding, soothing, and cuddling. My approach is calm and patient, allowing your baby to guide the pace of the session so we can create beautiful, natural portraits without pressure.
Whether your baby is sleepy, wide awake, or somewhere in between, I will gently guide you and your baby through the session to create timeless, heartfelt images. I’ve written a blog post if you’re still asking, “What is baby-led newborn photography?“
Newborn sessions typically last between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on your baby’s needs. The session is designed to feel calm and relaxed, never rushed, so you and your baby can feel comfortable throughout the experience.
Your newborn session includes planning and styling guidance, the session itself, and a private ordering appointment where you will select your finished artwork. My clients typically invest in framed fine art prints and heirloom albums designed to be displayed and passed down. Digital files are offered as a complement to artwork, not as the primary product.
Digital images are available, but my work is centered on creating finished artwork for your home. As a Norfolk newborn photographer, I believe these portraits deserve to live beyond a screen. Framed prints and albums are crafted with museum quality materials so your baby’s first portraits become part of your family’s daily life.
Newborn sessions take place in my private, in-home studio designed to be warm, calm, and welcoming for new parents and babies. I serve families throughout Norfolk and the greater Hampton Roads area and would be honored to welcome you into the studio.
Absolutely. Although my studio is located in Newport News, I regularly welcome families from Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, and throughout Hampton Roads. Many parents tell me the peaceful, fully prepared experience makes the drive well worth it during those first weeks with a newborn.
