HEIRLOOM PORTRAITS IN WILLIAMSBURG, RICHMOND & VIRGINIA BEACH

An Heirloom Is More Than a Portrait

Virginia heirloom photography is rooted in intention. These are not images created for trends or quick consumption. They are carefully composed portraits, designed to feel timeless, restrained, and enduring.

When families commission heirloom portraits, they are choosing to preserve childhood in a tangible way, through finished artwork rather than fleeting images. The result is something that belongs not just to this season, but to the story of your home.

This is the kind of artwork that grows more meaningful with time.

Photography Is the Process

Artwork Is the Purpose

Every heirloom commission begins with the finished piece in mind.

Rather than focusing on volume or digitals alone, I guide families through the creation of museum-quality artwork, thoughtfully printed, matted, and framed, or bound into handcrafted albums.

Each decision is made with longevity in mind, ensuring your portraits feel as relevant and beautiful decades from now as they do today.

WALL ART & ALBUMS

Heirloom Wall Art

Framed heirloom portraits are designed to live visibly in your home. Hung above a piano, along a hallway, or in a child’s bedroom, these pieces become part of the rhythm of daily life.

I work closely with families to design wall art that complements their space, using classic frames, generous matting, and museum-grade materials chosen for their longevity and quiet elegance.

Each frame includes the corresponding high-resolution digital file in color and black & white.

Starting at $450

Heirloom Vignette Frames

Vignette frames are a signature offering, rooted in traditional portraiture and designed to tell a fuller story within a single frame.

Each vignette features two, three, or four portraits, thoughtfully arranged and printed at 5×7 or 8×10, then matted and framed using museum-quality materials. The result is a refined piece that feels collected, balanced, and timeless.

Each framed vignette includes the corresponding high-resolution digital files for every image, delivered in both color and black & white.

Vignette frames begin at $800.

THE MATTED PRINT BOX

The matted print box offers flexibility while maintaining an heirloom standard.

Your favorite images are professionally printed on archival, fine art paper and matted to 11×14, then stored in a linen heirloom box. These prints are designed to be easily framed over time or enjoyed as a curated collection, perfect for revisiting this season as often as you wish.

Each matted print includes the corresponding high-resolution digital file in both color and black & white.

Matted print boxes begin at $1200.

Dressing Your Little Ones

Heirloom portraits are designed to feel timeless, and wardrobe plays an important role in that.

Many families arrive with a cherished heirloom garment that has been passed down or lovingly made for their child. Others choose to purchase something special just for this season. For those who prefer, a small complimentary heirloom wardrobe is also available to use during your session.

I guide every family toward wardrobe choices that feel traditional, refined, and harmonious with this style of portraiture, ensuring the focus remains on your child and the finished artwork.

Detailed wardrobe guidance is provided as part of the planning process, so you never have to guess or worry about what will photograph beautifully.

1. INQUIRY

Start by completing the inquiry form. You’ll receive a detailed portrait information guide with everything you need to know about booking, artwork, and investment. This allows you to review the experience comfortably before moving forward.

2. Consultation

Via phone, FaceTime, or in person, we’ll connect to talk through wardrobe styling and the overall vision for your child’s portraits. This is where I learn about your child — their age, personality, and sweet details — and where you can ask questions and feel fully prepared.

3. The Portrait Sitting

Portrait sittings take about 20 minutes per child. I guide your little one gently, helping them settle in front of the camera while teaching simple posing and capturing a variety of expressions and classic profiles.

During your visit, you’ll also have time to view frame samples and hold finished artwork so you can begin imagining how your portraits will live in your home.

4. PROOFS

You’ll receive an online gallery of 20 proof images. From these, you’ll select your five favorite portraits, which will be fully finished in both color and black & white. We’ll then meet via Zoom for your ordering appointment to design your artwork together.

5. Artwork Delivery

Your heirloom portraits are custom printed, framed with museum-quality materials, and carefully prepared for delivery — ready to be displayed and treasured for generations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ages are best for heirloom portraits?

Heirloom portraits are most often created between one and six years old, when children still carry that unmistakable softness of early childhood. That said, there is no single “perfect” age. Each stage holds its own beauty, and I’ll guide you in choosing the timing that feels right for your child.

Heirloom portraits are intentionally simple and timeless. Soft whites, creams, light blue, and subtle pastels photograph beautifully against the classic white backdrop. Many families choose a special heirloom outfit that has been passed down or lovingly selected for this milestone. I also offer guidance and access to my curated wardrobe to help complete the look.

Your session includes a 20-minute child-focused portrait sitting, professional guidance throughout, and an online proofing gallery of 20 images. From these, you’ll select your five favorite portraits, which will be finished in both color and black & white and designed into heirloom artwork during your ordering appointment.

This is one of the most common concerns and almost always unnecessary. I work at your child’s pace, allowing time for them to warm up and feel comfortable. Sessions are short by design, and years of experience have taught me how to gently guide even the most reserved little ones.

My studio is located in Newport News, Virginia, and I proudly serve families throughout Williamsburg, Richmond, and Virginia Beach, as well as surrounding areas. Heirloom Events may also be hosted in select private locations.

Because sessions are limited and carefully scheduled, retainers are non-refundable. However, I understand that life with little ones can be unpredictable. In cases of illness or emergency, sessions may be rescheduled within the same calendar year, subject to availability.

Heirloom Events are limited-availability portrait days hosted in select locations or private homes. These sessions are shorter and designed exclusively for heirloom portraits, offering the same level of craftsmanship and artwork options in a special event format.

Heirloom portraits are not simply photographs; they are custom, museum-quality works of art. From the materials used to the time spent guiding you through design and ordering, each piece is created to last for generations. This experience prioritizes craftsmanship, longevity, and the preservation of childhood in its most timeless form.
