Newborn Portraits, Created as Artwork

BRING YOUR PRECIOUS BABY AND I’LL TAKE CARE OF THE REST.

Newborn commissions are at the heart of my family portrait work. These early days are fleeting, and they deserve more than a gallery of images that live unseen on a screen.

As your Virginia Beach family photographer, I guide you through commissioning newborn portraits designed to become tangible keepsakes, often in the form of handcrafted albums and thoughtfully framed pieces.

Albums are especially meaningful during the newborn season, allowing you to hold this chapter in your hands and return to it year after year.

This keeps newborns central without excluding others.

Artwork That Lives With You

Every family commission begins with the finished piece in mind.

Rather than focusing on volume or digitals alone, I help families choose how their portraits will be preserved and enjoyed, whether that’s through custom-framed artwork for your walls or heirloom albums designed to be passed down.

Photography is simply the process.

The artwork is the purpose.

Maternity, Family, and Milestone Commissions

In addition to newborn portraits, I accept a limited number of maternity, family, and milestone commissions each year for families who value the same intentional approach.

These sessions are approached with the same philosophy: calm guidance, thoughtful styling, and finished artwork designed to honor each season as it unfolds.

Nothing here feels transactional or menu-like.

The Commission Experience

Each Virginia Beach family photography commission includes:

1. Consultation & Planning
Every commission begins with a conversation. We discuss your family, this season of life, and how the finished artwork will live in your home, whether that’s framed pieces for your walls or an heirloom album designed to be held and shared.

2. The Portrait Session
Your session is calm, guided, and unhurried. Rather than chasing volume, the focus is on creating a small collection of meaningful images that reflect your family with simplicity and care.

3. Artwork Selection & Design
Following your session, I guide you through selecting and designing your finished artwork. Families often choose handcrafted albums for newborn portraits, along with framed pieces to mark this season in a tangible way.

4. Delivery & Installation
Your artwork is thoughtfully prepared and delivered, ready to be enjoyed in your home now and for years to come.

For families who know how quickly this season passes.

frequently asked questions

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY NEWBORN PORTRAIT SESSION?

We are often the first person moms contact when they find out they are pregnant and typically book 6-8 months out from your due date. If we are fully booked for your due date, we will let you know when we receive your inquiry.

WHAT SHOULD I PLAN TO INVEST IN MY NEWBORN PORTRAITS?

After your newborn session, we will meet again either in my studio or in the comfort of your home for the most exciting part: seeing your portraits for the very first time.

During this time, I will guide you through choosing the artwork that best fits your family such as framed pieces for your walls, heirloom albums, or thoughtful gifts for grandparents. Most families invest between $1,500 and $3,200 in a collection that includes both custom artwork and digital files.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY NEWBORN PHOTOS?

I will guide you through choosing what to wear, and you are welcome to borrow from my carefully selected studio wardrobe. I also provide a shopping guide if you would like extra help pulling pieces together for the whole family.

Light colors and soft pastels always look timeless and keep the focus on your baby.

HOW LONG IS A NEWBORN SESSION?

My newborn sessions are approximately 2 hours, but I reserve the morning just in case your bundle of joy needs a little extra attention. To support a calm environment for all, I never rush newborn photos.

Do you offer lifestyle newborn or newborn photos in the home?

Yes, I do. One of my favorite places to photograph a newborn is right in their nursery, if it is ready, because it tells such a sweet part of your family’s story. Many families still choose the studio for its clean and classic look, but in-home sessions are always an option when there is abundant natural light and soft, airy decor. Light walls, neutral furniture, and large windows help me create the timeless style my clients love.

I also offer on-location newborn sessions in settings that feel meaningful and beautiful, such as a flower garden in Colonial Williamsburg. These outdoor sessions are especially lovely in the spring and summer months, adding a natural, graceful backdrop to your baby’s earliest portraits.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY NEWBORN PHOTOS?

I try my best to provide everything for you from my client wardrobe to soft swaddles. The most important role you have will be ensuring baby is very well fed. Once you book your session, I will send you over a full planning guide with a checklist.
