Before your session, I’ll help you select clothing that photographs beautifully and complements the timeless nature of heirloom portraiture. Families are welcome to choose something meaningful from their own wardrobe, purchase something especially for the occasion, or select from pieces available in my client wardrobe.
After your portraits are created, we’ll meet again for your ordering appointment. I’ll help you choose your favorite images, consider where they’ll live in your home, and select artwork and framing that feels at home there.
The result is more than a gallery of photographs. It’s something tangible, thoughtfully made, and meant to stay with your family.

My portrait studio is located in Newport News, making it possible for me to serve families throughout Virginia Beach and Coastal Virginia who are looking for a more traditional approach to children’s portraiture.
Every detail is thoughtfully planned before you arrive, from wardrobe and styling to the portraits we hope to create. What to Wear for Heirloom Portraits
Classic clothing is part of what gives heirloom portraits their timeless quality. I often recommend soft whites, creams, pale blues and other gentle tones, along with traditional details such as Peter Pan collars, smocking, delicate embroidery and beautifully made dresses and short sets.
Some families already own the perfect piece, perhaps something passed down through the family. Others purchase an outfit especially for their child’s portrait or choose from my client wardrobe.
Whichever you prefer, I’ll help you make a selection that keeps the attention on your child and will still feel beautiful years from now.

What Is the Best Age for Heirloom Photos?
There isn’t one perfect age for an heirloom portrait. Part of their beauty is that each season preserves something different.
Babies bring soft cheeks and tiny details. Toddlers have expressions and personalities all their own. As children grow, their features begin to change and we start to see glimpses of the older child they’re becoming.
Many families begin during the first few years and return as their children grow, creating a collection of portraits that tells the story of childhood over time.

Soft colors, classic silhouettes and traditional details photograph beautifully for heirloom portraits. You’re welcome to bring something special from home, purchase an outfit for the occasion, or choose from pieces in my client wardrobe. I’ll help you plan everything before your session.
What ages do you photograph?
Heirloom portraits are beautiful at many stages of childhood, from babies who are sitting independently through the early childhood years and beyond. The experience can also be tailored for siblings so that we create both individual portraits and images of your children together.
Can siblings be photographed together?
Absolutely. We can create individual portraits of each child as well as sibling portraits, giving you options for displaying their artwork together in your home.
Do you offer digital images?
Yes. Digital images are available for purchase after artwork has been purchased. The heirloom experience is centered around creating finished artwork for your home, so I’ll first help you select your favorite portraits and decide how you’d like to display them.
Do you offer sessions in Virginia Beach?
My Signature Heirloom Sessions are primarily photographed at my Newport News studio. I also offer a limited number of Private Heirloom Portrait Events that can bring the experience to families and groups in Virginia Beach and other areas of Virginia.
